Hi, it’s Taco Fleur from Cavemantraining and I’m going to explain how to use kettlebells for power.
Some great kettlebell exercises to work on power are the kettlebell Jerk, snatch, swing, squat thruster, hang clean, and so on.
When training for power, you want to work on increasing speed and load. You can also work on explosive power, which is where you focus on increasing the speed as early as possible. It’s all about using strength as quickly as possible.
For optimal power training, the reps are 1 to 3 reps at 80 to 85 percent of 1RM, and 3 to 5 sets with 2 to 4 minutes of rest between sets. The reps and sets are low so that you’re able to work on power, sure, as you become more conditioned you will be able to do more, but whatever you do, you want to stay outside of the fatigue zone where the speed decreases.
Let’s dive into these exercises quickly:
- Jerk
- snatch
- dead
- hang
- swing
- swing
- squat thruster
- hang clean
There are many videos on our channel that go into more technical details which I highly recommend you check out, for example; how to rack a kettlebell, how to hold a kettlebell, how to do a kettlebell dead clean, and the list goes on.
