What is Shoulder Packing? Copy 2022
If you completely relax your shoulders and have someone else move your upper arm around in any direction he/she pleases, it would move quite freely in and out of its socket. The goal is to prevent any instability in that area during weightlifting, so you want to provide stability by “packing” the shoulders. Not only does shoulder packing prevent injury, it also allows you to get stronger and lift more weight by providing a stable base to press or pull from.
Here’s how to do it: You pack your shoulders by pushing your chest out slightly, pulling your lats down, slightly squeezing the shoulder blades together while pulling the shoulder blades down and creating a firm chest. The desired position to achieve is the shoulders pressed down and away from the ears.

You don’t kick a soccer ball with a loose/relaxed knee or hip joint, do you?
