Kettlebell Swing: Hip Hinge range
i have a question about the Kettlebell Swing hip hinge range.
Does the hip hinge range depend on the power of the hips ? I mean, the "depth" you are swinging back.
This question came up in my own training, i am into the swing since 3 month, doing 300 swings with a 24 kg daily and added 80 swings with a 32 kg daily, since 2 weeks. I personally felt the internal need not to go that far back since a while, and the same time, i felt a greater power achievement. First i thought, maybe its a wrong sign of internal feeling, even i usually can trust my body, but after watching some guys in youtube ( Denisov, Marchovski etc. ) i even can see, there is just a little hip hinge related to most instructional videos for beginners. So does anyone have the same experience ? Does the movement of hip hinge become smaller over time ? Dont get me wrong, i am still a bloody beginner, its just that i feel the need not to go that far back, compared with my beginning, have a better feeling and feel amazing hip power. I just would be happy if anyone could help me to clear up that point.
Thanks in advance
I assume you're into kettlebell sport, as those guys you mention are, hence, the technique will be different. In kettlebell sport there is more of a quarter squat. In kb training most people use the full hip hinge. This is because both have a different objective. In sport you want to use as little energy as possible to perform a movement, as you want to do as many reps as possible. In kb training the objective is usually to get resistance, take for example a bicep curl, you want to bring the dumbbell all the way down, you're not going to do a quarter bicep curl, because you're training to get stronger, hence, you go full range. So really you need to decide what you want from your training first, if it's to compete in kb sport, do one thing, if you want to get stronger faster, more flexible, do another. Hope that helps?
No, i learned and still use Pavels Hardstyle Swing. Trifon Marchovski explained me some Basic Points about the Sports Style, and i definitvely dont use it. I even wondered, like you mentioned in your post about WKC, about the rounded backs so i asked him. And by his very detailed answer... Well Sports Style seems Rocket science to me, its not what i do. It looks intetesting yes, but at least me, i wouldnt do it without the guidance of a real expert, cause Trifons - only Basic View - already blew me away and made me not touch it. Cause its much more into it than what can be seen on the first View. I use very brute hip Power in each repititon. What i just meant, i can generate now the same Power as in the beginning, with a smaller hinge movement, what feels extremly great especially with a 32 kg Bell. Lets say, the general angle, spine to thigh is somewhere between 90 to 80 degrees, mine will be around 70 - 75 degrees. So, usually i go by feeling, and i never felt anything better than now. Just wanted to know, if there maybe is a trap, or of anyone experienced the same.
